Our Story
ONWARD & UPWARD – 2025
Our new home ( end June ) is in Deganwy, just a short walk from Conwy and Llandudno Junction. We’ll have a new 10BBL brewhouse, a brewery shop, and a welcoming taproom where you can enjoy our beers — and even a few extras like our very own Gin and liqueur range. We’re particularly excited about getting serious about cask ales again with a constant changing range of specials alongside our existing favourites such as our IPA and increasingly popular Summit Pale Ale.
We believe that if you’re going to build something, you should do it properly — with heart, with care, and with a good deal of fun along the way. It might take a little time to finish everything, but when it’s ready, we’re excited to offer you a place that feels as good as the beer tastes.
The journey hasn’t always been easy — but we’re still climbing. Onward and upward, as always.
We hope you’ll come visit and let us share it with you.
TIME TO GROWTH – 2018
Through the 2010s, the brewery traded under its original name, The Great Orme Brewery, which grew steadily picking up a number of awards along the way — one of the proudest moments was winning CAMRA Champion Mild of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival in 2013.
But times were changing. Snowdon Craft Lager, which we first brewed in 2011 almost as an experiment, had quickly become our best-seller. New influences from the US craft beer scene were reshaping tastes here in the UK. So, in 2018 as our team of eight prepared to move to a new home, we decided to rethink what we were about. Not just following trends but leading with what mattered to us: great beer, strong local identity, and a modern take on how a brewery could fit into people’s lives. That’s when Snowdon Craft Beer was born — a new chapter, but with the same heart.
IN THE BEGINNING – 2003
The idea for the brewery started quietly — with a feeling that it was time for something different.
In 2003, after eight years working as a management consultant in the food sector, I could see the world of local food and drink was about to take off. In North Wales, where I grew up, there was still plenty of room for a good brewery to make its mark.
After a few years of studying, experimenting (and yes, a few kitchen disasters), I turned an idea into a reality.
By 2006, The Great Orme Brewery was up and running, working out of a 700-square-foot shed on the old family farm. My first brew won a regional CAMRA award (Thank you Leeds), and with that early success giving me the belief that maybe, just maybe, we were onto something, I decided to make it a full-time career. Well, I was young and foolish, so why not.
